GE9X Jet Engine Analysis
For this project my partner and I ran a full analysis on GE's newest Jet engine the GE9X engine which will be used on the Boeing 777X aircraft which is expected to go into production in 2020. We used CFD to run an analysis on the diffuser of the engine which gave us the final conditions of the diffuser and the boundary conditions of the compressor. EES was then used in order to calculate the pressure ratio of the compressor. After the compressor comes another diffuser which is the same size as the first diffuser but oriented the oposite direction. Like the first diffuser we used CFD to get exit conditions of the air which were then used as boundary conditions for the Combustion. Using EES once again my partner and I calculatied the efficiency of both the combusion and the turbine. After the turbine comes a nozzle which is the same as the diffuser. In the end we used all of this data to calculate the take off thrust of the engine which came out to have a percent error of under 1% from the actual thrust of the engine.
