Performance of a Heat Exchanger

For heat trasfer I created a report regarding the “Performance of a Heat Exchanger”. This report focuses on analyzing a specific heat exchanger by calculating the overall heat transfer convection coefficient (U), the effectiveness (ϵ), and the number of transfer units (NTU). This was first calculated by using the ϵ-NTU method and then later the correlations from the corresponding tables. Using the measured temperatures of the initial cold air, initial hot water, and the final hot water, to find the final temperature of the cold air which lead to the properties at the mean temperature. I then used these to calculate the heat transfer convection coefficients (h) for both hot and cold. The results show that the effectiveness of the specific air conditioner is 0.695 and the corresponding NTU using the ϵ-NTU method is 4.65. Keeping the effectiveness as 0.695 the resulting number of transfer unit using the correlation of a one shell heat exchanger is 3.48. I then calculated the effectiveness using the calculated number of transfer unit 4.65 and the one shell pass correlation which came out to 0.702.
